Microsoft characterized the retail packaging for Windows Vista as "designed to be user-friendly, a small, hard, plastic container designed to protect the software inside for life-long use"; [7] it opens sideways to reveal the Windows Vista DVD suspended in a clear plastic case. Users could purchase and download Windows Vista directly from Microsoft through the Windows Marketplace before the service's discontinuation. Microsoft sold these licenses online through its website. The latest iteration of Bitlocker also allows for the encryption of individual files for more flexibility than the all-or-nothing approach of previous versions.

But for Laptops Just ONE! Be done with it! Or make windows truly modular. Start with a basic install with minimal features, then users who want Home features can add what they want, people who need Pro can add those. I don't understand why the Home version still exist! MS should bring all the extra feature of the Pro version to Home and call it Pro and then add more feature to Pro and call it Ultimate, Business or something along those lines The difference between Home and Pro lies in Pro's ability to join a domain based network.

Leave as is. One would be better for us but for Microsoft financial wise not so much. You left out Windows 10 Pro for Workstations. It supports free usage of ReFS and supports a number of high-end hardware technologies. Pro for Workstations is really just a highly specialised version of Pro though. Also you can't boot from ReFS volumes yet so it's only for storage at this point.

No Apps that keep changing every time MS thinks they have a great new Idea. I did get rid of that, but my machine would not stay stable and kept coming up with a memory management error.

INB4 "updates" Windows 10 LTSB would be nice if it could be used officially, no cortana and other stuff that comes with windows 10 normally, but MS will not make it available.

This version of Windows 10 is typically purchased in bulk by companies or schools, though you can configure desktops and laptops to include it versus using Home. These versions include extra features to buy and upload content in bulk. That all said, the additional features in Windows 10 Pro are valuable to IT administrators but not to the general PC owner.

The reason for the speed is that there are no Windows legacy apps to slow things down. Files automatically save in the cloud via OneDrive, which helps avoid bloat on smaller hard drives.

Any PC can be compatible with Windows 10 in S mode. A few PCs currently ship with Windows 10 in S mode. Also, several manufacturers make low-cost notebooks running in S Mode. Windows 10 S mode has numerous limitations, including browser restrictions to Edge and only letting you use Microsoft Store apps.

Hyper-V is a Windows-only hypervisor used for running virtual machines on CPUs that support virtualization. If you plan on running VMs, this feature might be worth the cost of Pro, but if virtualization is all you need, there are free products like Virtualbox that offer more features and work with multiple operating systems.

While Hyper-V is included with your Windows 10 Pro license, it needs to be downloaded and installed separately. Aside from the above features, there are some other differences between the two versions of Windows.

Other features like group policy management, Assigned Access, and the ability to join a domain are unlikely to be very useful outside of the workplace. Assigned Access allows an admin to lock down Windows and allow access to only one app under a specified user account. Group Policy meanwhile allows you to restrict access to any number of Windows features and configure any setting within the operating system. Windows Update for Business allows an admin to control when a system is updated and defer updates that may cause incompatibilities with legacy software or impact the business in some other way.

For the majority of users, Windows 10 Home edition will suffice. If you use your PC strictly for gaming, there is no benefit to stepping up to Pro. The additional functionality of the Pro version is heavily focused on business and security, even for power users. Rather than classifying as a full edition of Windows 10, "S" is a mode that runs on either Home or Pro versions of the OS. It's designed to optimize security and performance, and it runs only apps that are downloaded from the Microsoft Store and browses the internet through Edge.

Anyone with Home or Pro editions can make the upgrade at any time, but it's not a forced update. You can also switch out of S mode at any time, reverting back to Home or Pro, though you can't switch back once you've gone one way.

There are likewise S versions for Enterprise and Education editions, which operate mostly the same as their standard siblings, though with the same streamlined experience. When buying a new laptop or PC, be sure to check with the manufacturer to determine what version of Windows 10 you're getting!

Bottom line: Windows 10 S is now a mode that can be enabled on Home or Pro including Enterprise and Education to deliver a more streamlined experience. Incidentally, one reason you might have bit on a bit processor is RAM and storage size of the computer. Running the bit version would use additional RAM and storage without providing any real benefit. Enterprise is the only real option nowadays due limitations made for Pro.

For who? It is volume licensed via a partner. When you install Enterprise the setup has you enter your domain credentials, not local account or MSA. Enterprise is for what it says, Enterprise use. Pro, because with Bitlocker you have that extra security I've got Pro myself. On three devices. I'm pretty sure it has. I have both Home and Pro editions, both have the same core features region dependant so really it just comes down to whether you need the business components of the pro version.

Enterprise is the only way to go now, since MS is ruining user control on Pro. When you use several devices and cloud services, your system is only as good as the lowest-level software you have.
